Description

'There Will Never Be Another You' is a popular song with music by Harry Warren and lyrics by Mack Gordon for the Twentieth Century Fox musical Iceland (1942) starring Sonja Henie. The song was published in 1942, and is one of the most widely known and performed standards of the jazz repertoire.

After Woody Herman’s initial recording of this tune in 1942, it dropped out of sight until being picked up again vibraphonist Lionel Hampton’s big band in 1950. That same year, talented saxophonist Sonny Stitt would record a version on tenor sax. Lester Young followed with the Oscar Peterson Trio in 1952. The piano genius Art Tatum’s version for Verve in 1953 includes the seldom-heard verse. Trumpeter/vocalist Chet Baker’s vocal rendition from 1954 helped bring the number into a wider sphere than just jazz fans. There have been countless subsequent jazz recordings.

This medium tempo jazz standard is taught by Jim Loessberg as a single-string melody for the first half of the tune, and a chord melody for the second half. The basic chords are given for the entire tune.
