Description
GHS "Progressives" Nickel-Iron Alloy Wound Singles
GHS advertises the Progressive strings like this: "These strings will test your strength and tone, by using a combination of premium core wire and a 'Filament Grade Alloy'. This alloy is the same strong wire used in automotive headlights and is magnetically activated to pull the tone through your pickups."
I don't know how much of that is hype, but I do know that these strings work well on a steel guitar. The tone is brighter than nickel wound, but not as bright as stainless. These singles use the same alloy as in the GHS Americana sets for pedal steel, but without the cryogenic treatment.
